Euro Rising I: In the Beginning (June/July 2001)
Euro Rishing: Three-part account written on the fly during
Greg and Angie's recent painting sojourn across Europe.
Dear All (and please forgive me for the 'group' letter)
A
short note to let you know that you are not forgotten and so
that hopefully you will not have forgotten us. Angie and I left
San Francisco in May for an exhibition in Singapore. On June
10th, I left Singapore for Rome. Seems like an eternity as days
of castles, churches, bridges and trains seem endless. Angie
joined me in Rome 3 weeks ago and since then we have refined our
voyaging skills considerably. At first, burdened with 6 bags
filled with clothes, shoes and art supplies, we looked like a
circus act moving through the Rome and Venice train stations. In
Milan and Lausanne we managed to jettison some clothes, my hand
controls for driving the car we never rented and 24 paintings
done of columns, domes, pillars and arches. We now move much
more swiftly through the world.
Sadly,
while in the cathedrals of Venice, Angie and I received word
that my 4-year-old nephew Cole had been diagnosed with kidney
cancer. A huge blow to our entire family and prayers from across
the globe poured into heaven. Resisting the urge to return home,
we have since received news from Dad that Cole has triumphed
through his operation and the outlook is good. Prayers were
indeed answered.
Perhaps the most important event that has happened in our
communications is that my dad has joined the email age and we
are able to stay in contact.
