Under the Wall series 2018

I’ve been painting China in China for over 30 years. With brushes and paints on canvas and paper, I’ve covered the waterfront. One of my favorite spots is the Great Wall. This iconic structure/image reminds me of the folly of strong men (as it rarely worked as a deterrent to marauders) and how nature will return despite our best efforts to cover it. Yet the beauty of the walls and towers slithering across the mountain ranges inspires me. Perhaps it’s a feeling of protection we all seek.
