As the resident artist at One & Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives, one of the world’s most exclusive and expensive resorts, I meet many kinds of people. Most are well to do and have most everything money can buy. One day in my studio, a few boys in their early teens (looking like they had stepped out of a Ralph Lauren commercial) were talking among themselves. I overheard them chatting about the difficulties they faced with social media. An overriding theme seemed to be that they wanted to be perfect. I’m not sure of all the challenges that they were facing, but I could not help but think that whatever they were striving for would be very difficult if not impossible to obtain. And it hit me that I would rather be strong than perfect and that this is actually something I have some control over.
